Call for Papers

The Journal accepts submissions from law students, academicians and legal professionals all over the country and abroad in the form of:

● Articles: 5000-7000 words. (These are evaluations of specific contemporary issues and aim at conceptualizing the issues in a unique and unconventional manner. The assessment of contemporary issues shall be appreciated, though not mandatory).

● Case notes/comments: 2000-3000 words. (These are assessments of the aim and legal impact of contemporary judgments and legislations).

● Book Reviews: 2000-3000 words. (Entries submitted under this category may present innovative evaluations of present literature).

● Essays: 4000-5000 words.

The submissions may be on any contemporary legal issue connected with media law and its allied fields of communications, entertainment and technology. The authors are expected to adhere to the prescribed word limit as indicated above.

Note: The prescribed word limits exclude Abstract, whose word limit is around 10 percent of the total length of the article, and footnotes, wherein speaking footnotes must be avoided wherever possible.

Each of these entries shall be required to conform to the set of guidelines that follow.

All the sources in the footnotes must be properly cited strictly in accordance with the latest OSCOLA (4th edition) format. No endnotes or speaking footnotes (descriptive footnotes) are allowed.

General Instructions

1. The submission should be original and non-plagiarised. They should exhibit originality in thought, critical evaluation, and careful interpretations. Submission of a paper shall be taken to imply that it is an unpublished work and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.

2. Co-Authorship to a maximum of two members is allowed. However, co-authorship is not allowed in “book reviews” and “case notes/comments”.

3. Acknowledgement and Declaration by the author(s) need not be included.

4. The contents should in no way, directly or indirectly, indicate or reference the identity of the author(s).

5. The author(s) must send in the cover letter in the body of the mail, which must contain all the relevant biographical details (Name of the author(s), their degrees, Designation, Name of College/University/Institution, Postal Address(es), Phone Number and email ID). A separate attachment as a cover letter will not be entertained.

6. The authors must attach only one manuscript to the mail which must include the abstract and the main content of the paper. The authors must refrain from adding any other information (such as personal information, declarations) in this manuscript. 

7.  The file name of the attached manuscript must be the name(s) of the author(s).

8. The subject title for the mail must be ‘Article/Essay/Case Comment/Book Review for Volume X’.

1. Editors’ decisions shall be final and binding. They reserve the sole rights to the publication of the selected articles in addition to, inter alia, any edits/amends/reproduction.
2. The contributions presented to and accepted for publication and the copyrights therein shall be the intellectual property of the Journal Committee, Dr. RMLNLU.

About the Event

Smt.Nirmala Devi Bam Memorial International Moot Court Competition is a flagship competition of Indore Institute of Law. This competition was started from 2019 in the loving memory of Mrs. Nirmala Devi Bam (beloved mother of Mr. Akshay Kanti Bam, Chairman Indore Institute of Law) After the successful completion of III Smt. Nirmala Devi Bam Memorial National Moot Court Competition 2021, this was organized from 28th to 30th May 2021. The three day competition was blessed by the presence of eminent luminaries Dr. Sanjeevani Shanthakumar (Director GNLU), in the opening ceremony and Hon’ble Justice M.R Shah Judge Supreme Court of India, Dr. Sahdev Singh (Secretary, Department of Justice, Govt. of India, Ministry of Law and Justice and Ministry of Home Affairs) in the Closing Ceremony. We were honored to have 41 registered teams from various Law Schools and Universities who marked their presence in the battle of eloquence, advocacy and mooting skills. The Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad emerged as the winner of the competition and the runner up was Christ University, Bangalore, The preliminary and the semi-final rounds were judged by the panel of judges from various law firms, Universities and Government department. The complaint had been filed by Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) senior leader, Naeem Akhtar, in the year 2018 wherein it had been alleged that the Republic TV had broadcasted a news segment revolving around Khalid Jahangir’s letter which did not include complainant’s name yet the Editor-in-Chief had intentionally and deliberately mentioned his name while reporting about the same.

The letter included allegations of corruption and favoritism, and the complainant alleged that the anchors and journalist of Republic TV repeatedly mentioned his name in connection to the allegations raised in the letter.

The bench denied the allegations and stressed upon the duty of press to bring before the viewers’ news of day-to-day events relating to those public figures whose actions affect the public at large.

Furthermore, the bench observed that in cases where journalist publishes true report in respect of a public figure and their public functions, which already remain in public domain, it could not be said to be an intentional act to harm the reputation of such public figure.

The bench stated that publication of charges which concern public duties of a public figure and have already been recorded in a letter which is also in public domain, would amount to an unreasonable restriction on the freedom of press guaranteed under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution of India.

It also highlighted that mens rea, a condition precedent to constitute the offence of defamation, had been absent in order to prove the intention or knowledge on part of accused to harm the reputation of complainant.

The bench therefore, quashed the proceedings and the complaint on the ground that no emanating offence had been disclosed against the petitioners.
