The University of York will be hosting a workshop on the 15-16th December on the broad theme of regulation of and liability for robotics. This workshop is part of a project funded by an EU Horizon 2020 grant which aims to explore best practices and to provide services to facilitate the uptake of robotic inspection and maintenance technologies that are being deployed across sectors including transport, oil, water management, and nuclear. Professor Roger Brownsword of King’s College London and Bournemouth University will be the keynote speaker at the workshop.
We welcome papers connected with the broad theme of the regulation of robots, or on liability issues concerning robotic technologies. All methodologies are welcome, and we also very much welcome insights from different jurisdictions. We are very keen to provide opportunities for scholars at all levels of experience to take part – and to encourage this we have reserved slots for ECRs.
If you are interested in taking part, please submit an abstract to phillip.morgan@york.ac.uk by 14th August 2020. To permit workshop participants to read and comment on each other’s papers participants selected to take part in the workshop will be asked to submit a draft of their paper prior to the workshop. We are also in discussions with a publisher to release an edited collection of the papers resulting from the workshop.
Due to the Covid-19 situation, the workshop will be held electronically, rather than in person. We are also able to facilitate requests to present at particular times to facilitate time-zone, or caring responsibilities (amongst others).
