The sixth annual Global Corporate Governance Colloquia (GCGC) will be hosted by Yale Law School on June 11-12, 2021. There is a call for recent papers on the topic of Corporate Governance. The deadline for submission is October 30, 2020. Please see the Call for Papers for more details. The conference is by invitation only.

About organizers

The Global Corporate Governance Colloquia (GCGC) is a global initiative to bring together the best research in law, economics, and finance relating to corporate governance at a yearly conference held at 12 leading universities in the Americas, Asia and Europe. The 12 hosting institutions are:

Columbia University, Goethe University Frankfurt, Harvard University, Imperial College London, National University of Singapore, Peking University, Seoul National University, Stanford University, Swedish House of Finance, University of Oxford, University of Tokyo, and Yale University.

About the Conference

The aim of the conference series is to attract current research papers of the highest scholarly quality in the field of corporate governance. The conferences are primarily ‘academic to academic’ events with some participants from industry and the public sector including the practitioner partners of GCGC and other invited panelists. The practitioner partners are Zurich Insurance Group and Japan Exchange Group (JPX).

The sixth annual GCGC Conference will be hosted by Yale University on 11 – 12 June 2021. The Conference Committee is inviting researchers to submit recent papers on corporate governance (no maximum word count). In this context, corporate governance refers to the way in which private and public companies, enterprises, entrepreneurship, and financial institutions are governed and run in relation to their purpose, values, ownership, representation, accountability, financing, investment, performance, leadership, direction, management, employment, law, regulation, and taxation.

Papers will be selected for presentation from the submissions received. Ideally, these submissions should be based on new research that will not have been presented before. Each paper will be assigned a discussant and there will be ample time for questions and comments from the audience.

PAPER SELECTION PROCEDURE

A selection will be made by a Conference Committee from the papers that were submitted online before the deadline of 30 October 2020 (midnight CEST) using the form below. Researchers will be notified whether their paper has been accepted for the conference before 31 December 2020.

ORGANISATION

The conference will take place over two days. In addition to the research presentations, there will be two-panel discussions involving participants from industry and the public sector. The conference dinner will be held on the evening of 11 June. The organisers will contribute towards the cost of travel and provide up to three nights of hotel accommodation for the presenters. (Note: A separate workshop event on ‘The History of the Corporation’ is also being organised for 10 June 2021 to which GCGC presenters will be invited).

Questions may be directed to: admin@ecgi.org
This event is organised by the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) www.ecgi.global

Note: It is intended to convene this meeting physically, however, in the event that it becomes unviable, it will take place online.

Additional Information

– This event is strictly by invitation only and the number of places are limited to ensure quality engagement.
– Only one author will be invited to present a paper when selected, you may indicate who this is on the form.
– There are no formatting requirements for submissions.
– Full papers are preferred to extended abstracts, however, early drafts will be considered. There is a preference for fresh research so if a draft paper will be in good shape by the time of the conference (11 June 2021) please go ahead and submit it. By exception, extended abstracts may be accepted (particularly in the case of ECGI Fellows and Research members) but please include as much information as possible.

Note: You must be logged in to Submittable to access the submission form below. You will need to create an account if this is your first time using the platform.

Georgetown University Law Center and Yale Law School are hosting the Third Conference on Law and Macroeconomics online on October 15, 2020. The deadline for submitting papers is September 8, 2020.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The economic devastation caused by Covid-19 triggered a slew of new research on the law’s role in mediating the business cycle, economic growth, and inequality. We welcome submissions for an online conference on October 15, 2020, that will continue to explore connections between law and the macroeconomy.

Papers may address the role of law, regulation, and institutions in:

Monetary policy, both conventional and unconventional, and the payments system, including the impact of new platforms and technologies;

Financial regulatory policy, including the effect on the business cycle and economic growth, crisis containment and resolution, access to capital and other aspects of financial inclusion;

Fiscal policy to reduce the depth and frequency, and mitigate the effects of economic downturns, including the respective roles of federal, state, and local governments;

Moderating recessions with other policy levers, including bankruptcy, contract, and property law, environmental, utility, and labour regulation, and investment and capital controls; and

Reducing inequality, including policies affecting labour and employment relationships, competition, access to housing, healthcare, and other public services, and personal, corporate and public debt relief.

We hope to attract submissions from both legal scholars writing about macro-relevant topics and economists writing on subjects that would benefit from legal perspectives.

Submissions from students and others not in tenure- track positions are especially welcomed— there will be a special panel for such scholarship.

We also encourage submissions from all perspectives and areas of law that may help illuminate the intersection between law and macroeconomics and inform action to mitigate the pain and uncertainty caused by the economic downturn.

Over lunch, Greg Kaplan, Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago and Claudia Sahm, Director of Macroeconomic Policy at the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, will provide a non-technical overview of recent developments in macroeconomics that a legal audience should know. In a featured panel, Helene Rey, Lord Bagri Professor of Economics at London Business School, will present her research on carbon pricing and climate change; legal scholars with expertise in different aspects of the topic, such as international trade law and international tax law, will offer comments.

Papers for consideration should be submitted on or before September 8.

Submit Paper | Register
