Mehta in 2015. The main objective of the Cell is to work for the cause of Sustainable Development by\u00a0bringing about a change in the campus and the community not only with respect to the environment but also with respect to other related areas like energy, public health, sanitation, hygiene, etc. thereby realizing Sustainable Development Goals. We are pleased to announce that we are successfully hosting our third <strong>group discussion this Saturday 10th October 2020, from\u00a03:30 to 4:30 PM.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"About_the_Topic\"><\/span>About the Topic<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/i1.wp.com\/lexforti.com\/legal-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/discussion-III-576x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5544\" width=\"306\" height=\"540\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">The discussion is on the topic \u201cLoss of Marine&nbsp;Life due to Oil Spills and Chemical Explosion\u201d. Future of international laws regarding oil spills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Panellists\"><\/span>Panellists<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/i1.wp.com\/lexforti.com\/legal-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/session-III-723x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5545\" width=\"344\" height=\"484\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Ajay Siva Sankara\u00a0Pillai, currently working as Consultant for Dry-docking, Management Change,\u00a0New builds, Pre-purchase inspections and Pre-Vetting. He has extensive\u00a0experience in dry-docking and management takeovers. He also has gained\u00a0knowledge about Maritime technology and has worked on different ports. With great knowledge and experience about the field, We are sure he will be able to\u00a0provide us with a good amount of\u00a0knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">NMC Nair, holds 12 years of sailing experience along with 12 years of experience as a chief\u00a0mechanical engineer. He has taught students in training institutions for around\u00a05 years. He has 14 years of experience in ship management and with his\u00a0commendable record of 20 years of experience of a marine\u00a0supervisor, IRDA licensed surveyor and ship dock supervision his presence will\u00a0truly help us to gain important\u00a0insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"About_the_theme\"><\/span>About the theme<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">A report released by International Tanker Owners Pollution\u00a0Federation Ltd in 2019 showed that one large spill (>700 tonnes) and two\u00a0medium spills (7\u2013700 tonnes) were recorded by ITOPF. Oil spills not only impact\u00a0the environment but also the economy. Tourism sector and the Fisheries and\u00a0Mari-culture are adversely affected as there occurs a stall in their day-to-day\u00a0operations. Economies highly dependent on these industries, especially coastal\u00a0capital cities are heavily impacted due to these oil spills. Attempts have to\u00a0be made to resolve this increasing issue so that damages to marine life and<br>also, the economy is mitigated.\u00a0<br>Chemical explosions are one form of UNDEX or Underwater\u00a0Explosion, the other one being nuclear. The loss of aquatic life that may\u00a0result due to a chemical explosion is very high and with the emergence of new\u00a0developments and requirements for increasing military defence, the threat to\u00a0aquatic life has increased.
