This PIL is against Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Whatsapp. The main contention is that these platforms propagate unregulated and unrestricted contents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plea contends that <a href=\"https:\/\/lexforti.com\/legal-news\/tamas-the-serial-that-showed-the-truth-and-not-the-communal-hatred\/\">communal hatred<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lexforti.com\/legal-news\/hate-crimes-against-the-disabled-community-the-lesser-known-side\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hate crimes<\/a>, sexually offensive contents and contents alike are being shared and propagated in these platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plea also contends regarding the blatant violations of IP Rights, Privacy and various other penal provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plea seeks to have regulations on the place for these social media giants. It contends that these regulations would come under the purview of &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/lexforti.com\/legal-news\/every-citizen-is-allowed-to-enjoy-their-rights-in-letter-and-spirit-subject-to-reasonable-restrictions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reasonable Restrictions<\/a>&#8216; under Article 19(2) of the Constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There are predominantly three reliefs that is being sought:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Removing the illegal content<\/li><li>Policy formation by these companies to deter such content within 24 hours of upload<\/li><li>Application of <a href=\"https:\/\/indiankanoon.org\/doc\/1439440\/#:~:text=(1)%20Where%20the%20Central%20Government,of%20India%2C%20defence%20of%20India%2C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Section 69<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/indiankanoon.org\/doc\/10190353\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">69A<\/a> of the IT Act to block any offensive content.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional relief has been sought against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lexforti.com\/legal-news\/whatsapp-new-privacy-terms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new privacy policy<\/a> of the WhatsApp. Petitioner seeks the remedy which could lead to rescinding of the latest privacy policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Case:<\/strong> Maatr Foundation v.
