Abdul Kalam Technical University students approach SC against the offline exams

Recently, The Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), UP, issued an examination notification on January 25, 2021 calling for conducting offline examinations for Session 2020-2021, in its affiliated colleges.

A group of students has approached the Supreme Court appealing against the decision of the AKTU, Uttar Pradesh to conduct the semester examinations in offline mode stating that this notification should be set aside as arbitrary and for being violative of Article 14 and 21A of the Constitution.

It is contended by the students that having thousands of the students at the examination center should not be suggested amidst a pandemic that has not ended yet.

It was further submitted by the students that if the examinations are conducted offline, many students would have to travel from different corners of the country which makes the students much more prone to spread the virus.

Further, the Students would also have to spend ample amount of money on travel and accommodation which would increase unnecessary pressure on the students.

Additionally, students also pleaded that the students neither have their books nor any other resources to prepare for the offline mode of examinations as they did not attend their respective colleges since March 2020 and they never got books issued from the library so that they can prepare their notes properly.
