Are schools, colleges reopening in India on 1st September?

One of the major questions that everyone is seeking since the imposition of the lockdown due to COVID – 19 pandemic is, when will schools, colleges reopen? Since the imposition of Nation-wide lockdown School and Colleges have been shut. It has been 5 months since educational institutions are shut due to the pandemic.

In the midst of the closure, there is a media report which claims that Centre might be coming up with a phased-manner plan for the reopening of schools and colleges across India.

When Schools and Colleges would reopen?

According to the sources, Government is coming up with a phased-manner plan to open the educational institutions in the country in between 1st September to 14th November.

When is government going to take such decision?

Central Government will be deciding regarding the opening of the Educational institution across the country, so now the big question is, when? When will the central government come up with such decision?

According to the sources, the decision regarding the opening of the educational institutions across the country would be taken by the end of this month as the part of final Unlock guidelines.

How would College reopen, is there any plan?

According to the Economic Times report, Centre has already charted the plan for the same. The plan has been charted out by the secretaries who are associated with the Ministers for COVID-19 Management; which is headed by none other than our Health Minister and the Parliamentarian Dr Harsh Vardhan.

Central Government will be issuing a Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) for the reopening of the schools and colleges across the nation. It is imperative to understand that it has been 5 months since the institutions are shut and for many people, online education is not feasible. May poor families can’t afford electronic gadgets to facilitate online classes.

So the schools, colleges would reopen after the publication of SOPs by the Central Government, right?

No, it won’t. The Central Government would direct for the reopening of the institutions along with the manner and the way it shall be opened. However, the final decision to reopen the schools, colleges is on the hand of the State Government.

What has Centre formulated for the reopening of the schools and colleges?

For the first fifteen days, only the student of Class 10 and Class 12 would be asked to attend the classes. In furtherance to which the student of Class 6 to 9 would be asked to join the class, which would be subjected to the restricted timelines.

It is pertinent to note that all the sections of the school/colleges wouldn’t be operative in a single day. Different sections would be operative in different specific dates.

One of the most important focus of the Centre’s formulation is about sanitization of the classrooms. Schools will be told to work in shifts – 8 to 11 AM and 12 to 3 PM – with an hour left for the sanitisation.

Will primary schools or classes would resume during the final unlock?

As per the sources, there is no such scenario where primary class students would be asked to attend the schools. Education will be imparted through online mode only.

Which model Government is going to implement for reopening of schools and colleges across the country?

According to the sources, the Government has been studying different countries as to how do they managed to resume the educational institutions. One of which is Switzerland. The formulation is considered to be as a similar model as that of Switzerland
