Partho Dasgupta sought Interim bail for two weeks
Former BARC CEO, Partho Dasgupta’s counsel stated before Bombay High Court that Republic TV’s highlight, Arnab Goswami, is the “main person” in the TRP scam.
This statement was made as a reply to opposition’s allegations that Partho Dasgupta was the mastermind of the TRP manipulation scam.
The counsel representing Partho Dasgupta sought for bail before the High Court after the same plea was rejected by the lower judiciary. The counsel pointed out that the co-accused were either granted bail or were provided with protection from arrest, and thus sought bail for the ex-BARC CEO on grounds of parity. The counsel also cited the deteriorating health condition of the Partho Dasgupta.
The opposition was not in favour of the same on grounds of a medical report from Taloja jail which stated that Dasgupta’s heath was stable, oriented and conscious.
The court, however, adjourned the bail plea by a week and allowed Dasgupta’s counsel to amend the petition and seek a copy of supplementary chargesheet.
As per this chargesheet filed before court, Dasgupta made a statement where he mentioned that he received Rs. 40 Lakh from Arnab Goswami over a period of three years as well as US $6,000 for a holiday trip, in consideration of manipulating the ratings.
As per the allegations, Partho Dasgupta is accused of misusing his position and joining hands with ARG Outlier Media and Arnab to rig the TRPs and place Republic TV on number one position.
