The Delhi Court granted bail to 22-year old climate activist Disha Ravi who was arrested from her Bengaluru residence in relation to “toolkit” case.
The “toolkit” case is said to have direct relation with the farmers’ protest which took an agitated form after the Republic Day incident.
The Additional Sessions Judge of Patiala House Court granted bail on the ground that the evidence on record is insufficient and scanty. The bench was of the opinion that the available evidence provides no reason to not deny the bail to the accused.
The court also took into consideration that Disha Ravi did not have criminal antecedents.
The bail was granted on furnishment of two sureties of Rupees 1 lakh each. The counsel appearing for Ravi’s lawyer requested court to reduce the amount but same was denied by the court.
The prosecution submitted that the alleged that the “toolkit” was created by Disha Ravi, which was later brought to public domain by the international climate activist Greta Thunberg.
The prosecution also alleged that the “toolkit” was formed in association with the Khalistani leanings. They also alleged that she had been a part of Zoom meeting with the members of an organization, Poetic Justice Foundation, which is said to have Khalistani links.
According to the prosecution, the “toolkit” is said to have been a measure to malign India, under the garb of farmers’ protest, and that it also contributed to the protest which took place in Delhi on Republic Day.
These allegations were refuted by the opposition and they submitted that “toolkit” was merely a document which was drafted to mobilize the social media protest against the farmer laws, and which promoted peaceful protest within the boundaries of Indian Constitution.
The allegations were set aside on ground that evidence was not sufficient and Disha Ravi was granted bail.
