Life of deceased cannot be negotiated

The Allahabad High Court adjudicated a matter relating to a woman deceased within two months of her marriage.

An FIR was registered by the victim’s mother against the husband and his family on allegations of dowry and their statements were recorded.

During the course of the criminal proceedings, it was brought to the court’s attention that the father of the deceased has accepted the amount of Rs. 2 lakhs in exchange for exonerating the accused.

The court opined that as a result of a compromise between parties, the court cannot be made a party to the compromise.

The court held that, “the life of the deceased is not so cheap, which could be negotiated between two individuals.”
