Plea before SC to use PM CARES fund to procure COVID essentials

A plea has been filed before the apex court to sought directions to use PM CARES fund for the purchase of COVID-19 essentials like vaccine, oxygen plants, generators and their installation in 700+ district hospitals which could be easily accessed by the general public.

The plea has been filed in order to expand the resources invested to combat COVID-19 and to ease the difficulties faced by general public by providing them better and faster treatment.

The petitioner has also sought for enlargement of three months exemption period granted on import duty of the medical equipment which assist in oxygen generation. The petitioner cited the reason of logistics which are involved in importing and installing these equipment’s.

The plea includes formulation of a “national plan” with the help of Chief Secretaries or State Ministries to combat the pandemic and its repercussions on common people. The plea has also sought for directions to MPs/MLAs to use their funds in a disciplined and transparent manner so that the community could be benefitted.

The petitioner has also sought for directions to the High Courts to issue appropriate instructions to the administrative authorities to ensure that impositions like lockdown and Section 144 are complied with in respective states.

Overall, the plea has sought for basic directions to the respective authorities and institutions in order to ensure the legal compliances are taken care of in furtherance of combating second wave of COVID-19.
