About the theme

A report released by International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation Ltd in 2019 showed that one large spill (>700 tonnes) and two medium spills (7–700 tonnes) were recorded by ITOPF. Oil spills not only impact the environment but also the economy. Tourism sector and the Fisheries and Mari-culture are adversely affected as there occurs a stall in their day-to-day operations. Economies highly dependent on these industries, especially coastal capital cities are heavily impacted due to these oil spills. Attempts have to be made to resolve this increasing issue so that damages to marine life and
also, the economy is mitigated.
Chemical explosions are one form of UNDEX or Underwater Explosion, the other one being nuclear. The loss of aquatic life that may result due to a chemical explosion is very high and with the emergence of new developments and requirements for increasing military defence, the threat to aquatic life has increased. Through these discussions, we aim to come up with solutions and ideas which will act as an aid in the process of implementation of pre-existing laws or rules and forward them to the concerned authorities.
